Homework Timetables
At Bow School we seek to ensure that each student achieves his full potential academically. Regular homework is an essential element in this process. All staff should ensure that homework is set, marked and recorded on a regular basis. Various kinds of tasks (writing, learning, research, etc.) should be set to reflect the nature of the work being done in class.
PROCEDURES
1. At the beginning of each school year, the Assistant Head for Homework ensures that a homework timetable is produced.
2. Each form tutor ensures that each student has a copy of his timetable in his planner.
3. Homework is set according to the homework guidelines and timetable.
4. Homework should be suitable for all students concerned and cater for those with learning difficulties as well as those who show a marked aptitude for the subject.
5. Each subject teacher ensures that students record the homework tasks in their planner. Form tutors conduct a weekly check that students are recording homework each day.
6. The completion of homework and the quality of work produced is closely monitored and recorded by the subject teacher.
- If a student submits work which is not commensurate with his ability or if he fails to produce complete homework without good reason, prompt action should be taken. The action taken should be determined by the whole school behaviour policy like a phone call home or detention.
- When a student has not completed homework three times, the form tutor should be informed and a letter sent home to the parents. If the problem persists the parents should be seen and the Pastoral Head informed.
7. Written work is marked and returned to students within a reasonable period of time. Each department has a policy on the way in which different kinds of tasks are marked and assessed. This policy reflects the Whole School Policy on Assessment.
8. Excellent use of Homework Diaries/planners by students is celebrated in each year group through assemblies and rewards.
