Rothschild & Co. Mentoring Programme
Our unique partnership with Rothschild was formed due to the backbone of their community programme being focused on support for schools and young people. This long-standing programme aims to develop the confidence and aspirations of young people, and equip them with the skills and knowledge required to make informed decisions about their futures.
This is done primarily through mentoring, work experience, reading support and employability programmes.
Employability Challenge Winner
Brought to you by RateMyApprenticeship.co.uk, in collaboration with PwC, the National Schools Employability Challenge gives young people across the UK the chance to showcase their employability skills.
If you’re a student looking to take on the 2019 Challenge, scroll down to find out more about each stage of the competition , as well as how you could be the winner of paid work experience with PwC and a shiny new iPad.
Nuffield Research Placements
Nuffield Research Placements provide over 1,000 students each year with the opportunity to work alongside professional scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.
Students in the first year of a post-16 science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) course studying at Bow are eligible to apply.
Projects take place in the summer holidays and have broadly scientific or technical content, but they don't have to be based in a laboratory. They might be office-based or include fieldwork, or they might focus on engineering, data science or computer science.
Our longstanding relationship with Nuffield has seen many of our students take up places on this prestigious course.
Pathways to Medicine with Imperial
This three-year programme is for highly motivated state-school students from low and middle-income homes who have the academic potential to achieve the grades for medical school.
Pathways to Medicine consists of activities that run throughout Years 11, 12 and 13 to help prospective students make strong and informed applications to study medicine at university.
- Informative talks by admissions tutors and medical students at Imperial
- E-mentoring with current Imperial medical students
- Summer school at the College during year 2 of the programme and personal statement advice
All Pathways to Medicine students are also guaranteed work experience in a healthcare setting.
Budding Brunels Programme: construction focused
The Budding Brunels programme introduces young people to professional career opportunities in construction. The course is specifically designed to show first-hand the breadth of professional career opportunities which exist within the industry.
Over the course of 3 days students see what it’s like to take on different professional roles; from project manager to surveyor, they get the opportunity to experience the industry from the inside, whilst all the while being provided with support to develop their own employability skills.
Participants spend time touring working construction sites; hear from industry professionals from projects as huge as the Cheesegrater, Crossrail and the Olympic park and visit universities and technical colleges to hear about the range of progression routes open.
High performers in the workshops have the opportunity to progress onto work placements, adding valuable experience to UCAS and employment applications.
