Year 10
Year 10 indicates a change of pace in a student’s education, a step into the fast lane of academic performance and is the first step towards college and ultimately University. The boys began the year with a clear understanding of the challenges they faced and the steps they needed to take to ensure they are successful.
Year 10 has a very clear ethos and that is to work as a community and encourage every individual to strive for the best, recognising that they are role models for the other students in Bow School; a challenge the boys relish.
This cohort of boys have had many opportunities, which have been designed to enhance the learning and personal skills of each individual. Year 10 are involved in the SRE Peer Mentoring programme and allows students to influence each other in a positive way regarding healthy eating and lifestyle. This kind of programme is only successful with a certain type of student and it was incredibly difficult to select the best students for the role as there were so many to choose from. Student Council interviews also took place within the year group and the ten candidates who put themselves forward presented themselves with maturity and professionalism making the decision to select the best five incredibly difficult. This showcased huge dedication from the boys, which was immensely pleasing to see.
Rewards for positive academic performance, behaviour, attitude and conduct is something that the boys yearn for and as a result, Year 10 consistently demonstrate a real fighting spirit to be given the opportunity to receive the rewards no matter how big or small. Year 10 have been running end of term rewards trips and the Always Club (which these students started) has also remained a core part of the rewards system. The belief is that, if students work hard they should be given the chance to see the benefits of this too.
I am incredibly proud to be working with all of the Year 10 students and look forward to the rest of our journey together, striving to achieve the top GCSE results.
