Bow School

Bow Academy

Year 11

It has been great to see our Year 11s working so hard throughout the year to prepare themselves for their final exams which will take place in May.

We are confident that we will continue to build on our ever improving results with this year group.  At the start of the year every Year 11 was placed in a TIG group.  This was based on each students minimum target grades.  Every Thursday after school from 3.05pm - 4.05pm they have had the opportunity to access additional support classes for every subject. This intervention has proved to be very successful and we have had nearly a 100% attendance for all sessions that have been run. Well done boys, this shows real commitment to success. There have also been leadership opportunities, academic mentoring, motivational day trips, residential, holiday classes and homework clubs to ensure every student reaches their full potential here at Bow.

All of these activities have been linked to a Year 11 rewards system, introduced this year, which has seen students being issued with a reward card.  They have collected positive commendations from staff and been rewarded for attending external activities and independent study.  As students have been filling their reward cards with staff signatures they have been given vouchers to spend at W.H.Smiths, Argos or Sports World.

This year has marked students’ preparation for life after school.  On a daily basis they have been putting together a portfolio of all outstanding work they have produced over the last two years.   They have also received additional support with college application and career choices.

Top tips for preparing for exams

-          Plan your revision.  Start now and revise for 30 minutes every evening.

-          Try different ways of revising.  E.g. quiz cards, posters, practice questions.

-          Make sure you have a quiet place to study.

-          ASK if there is anything you don’t understand.  Your teachers will help you.

-          Get a good night’s sleep.

-          Know your exam timetable and prepare your materials the night before.
