Bow School

Bow Academy

Year 8

The transition from Year 7 to Year 8 is an important period of time for Year 8. After a very positive and successful first year at the school, this year has been another step towards our Year 8s journey to GCSE and further education. It has been an exciting time and the boys have faced many new challenges, both academically and socially and have had the chance to make a chance to make a clear impact into daily life at Bow School.  This year group will be the first Year 11 group in the new Bow School that will be opening in September 2014!

The ethos within the year group is very strong with all boys are aware of the stage they are at in their learning. Together, our aim has been to ensure every individual knows what to do to improve; something that the boys in Year 8 take very seriously.  During the year, the boys have been subject to many opportunities to enhance their learning and personal skills through the SRE Peer Mentoring programme. The programme has taught the boys to learn more about themselves and the behaviour of others, contributing to the Year 8 goal of a supportive community.

We have four golden rules within school to ensure each boy has the maximum opportunity to do his best at Bow School and we are always keen to reward those that show these skills in a positive and engaging manner.  Boys are rewarded in many facets of school life; from academic performance to conduct and behaviour in and outside of school.   All of these characteristics contribute the Year 8 aim to facilitate independent and confident learners.

I am very proud to be working with each and every individual in Year 8 and there is nothing I like to see more than recognition for any member of the Year 8 cohort in achieving any of their targets.  I anticipate much more success within this year group and am sure they will go on to perform exceptionally year on year before they finally reach their own GCSE exams in the summer of 2015.
