Special Educational Needs

Compulsory homework sessions continue to be held on Wednesday evenings for identified year 7 students.  Should students have no homework they are provided with additional literacy and numeracy sheets which enhance their limited skills.  Year 8 and 9 students who have SEN are also encouraged to attend.

Identified students are withdrawn for their SAT’s exams thus ensuring they reach their potential.

It is widely recognised that for some students, studying l0 or more GCSE’s can be quite daunting with many failing to complete work set, thus the rational behind having SEN as an option. When choosing their options in year 9, discussions take place with identified students and their parents/carers to enable them recognise the benefits of selecting SEN as an option.  During these lessons, the students have the opportunity to complete outstanding homework and coursework as well as improve their literacy and numeracy skills.

We as a department continue to support students in class from years 7-ll and where applicable differentiate materials.  This ensures all participate and we have seen many become more confident students.
