Year 7 and 8 Cricket - Bow vs Oaklands
This was the first ever match for the boys as a team and they took on a very inexperienced team from the Borough; captained by Year 7’s David Roberts, they lost the toss and were put into bat.
David and Sheehan opened the batting and started an impressive partnership despite a fast bowler and a spinner on the attack in the first few overs. The partnership dealt with this well and started racking up the runs. Unfortunately Sheehan succumbed as he went for one shot too many and was clean bowled. David was now partnered by the school’s newcomer, Irkey Bernard.
This new pairing started off strongly, running well between the wickets and well-placed fours from both batsmen. This partnership lasted seven overs and it was only a slower ball that deceived Irkey and evaded his bat to find the stumps.
David was now racing towards his 25 run maximum where he would have to retire. He batted a total of 12 overs and was commanding in the centre of the field. The team batted out the rest of the innings with a notable knock from Muhibul and Shuvon.
Bow’s total was 91 from 16 overs, leaving Oaklands 92 to win the match.
As the fielders took the pitch they knew the task ahead of them and positioned themselves around the pitch, with Jaden Clarke padding up and taking up positions behind the stumps for the first ever time.
The bowling was started by David Roberts and Jushed and it only took four overs for a wicket to fall with Jushed removing the opposition’s best batsman, his pace was just too fast to handle.
Irkey was then given the ball and the boy took two wickets in his two over spell for only five runs. Sheehan was given two overs to show what he could do and he also took two wickets during this spell. However, the wicket of the match had to go to David who caught and bowled one of the last recognised batsmen in the opposition’s side. Other bowlers included Siddek, Jaden, Muhibul and Shuvon, all of whom bowled well and kept the opposition’s score down.
Oaklands finished with a total of 59, giving the boys a 32 run victory.
Well done boys!
Man of the Match: David Roberts for his captaining, batting total of 25 and brilliant wicket.
