Dan Freedman visits Year 7 pupils

On Wednesday 28th January, Year 7 boys enjoyed a visit from celebrated author, Dan Freedman. Dan came to talk about the trilogy of books he has written about the life of Jamie Johnson, a boy who dreams of becoming a professional football player. The first book is called, ‘Kick Off’; the second, ‘Shoot to Win’ and the third, due out in May, is called, ‘Golden Goal’.
Dan Freedman shares his character, Jamie’s, love of football. He has been a football fan from an early age and captured the boys’ attention by telling them about his experiences working with the England Football Team. The students were fascinated by his stories of interviewing players such as Steven Gerrard and playing badminton with Rio Ferdinand!
A competition was organised prior to Dan’s visit, where students worked towards prizes for:
- Best front cover design for Dan Freedman’s new book
- Best correctly completed research questions
- Best author questions
To finish off the talk, students were given the chance to ask a series of questions, and the competition winners were announced.
