Devil's Kiss' at Bow

24 June 2009

On Wednesday 24 June we were visited by Sarwat Chadda author of the chilling new book, 'Devil's Kiss'. Sarwat talked to three classes, one each from Years 7, 8 and 9. He told us how and why he wrote this book then he introduced us to three of the characters, Billi Sangreal, whom he described as similar to 'Buffy the vampire slayer'; Arthur, her father and Alex, a six year old ghost!

Sarwat explained that Arthur was a member of the secret 'Knights Templar' society and Billi was taking her final test before her initiation into the Order. He explained that the Knights Templar were an ancient organisation dedicated to fighting evil and protecting the masses from the 'unholy'.

Sarwat then asked the students to describe what happens when Billi meets Alex for her test. He wrote down their ideas…and joked with them about 'copyright'…most of them, being boys, decided 'Billi would cry and Arthur would save her'. Then three of the students were chosen to act out their story. Sarwat provided a wig (for Billi), a sword (for Arthur) and a plain white mask (for Alex). He read out the story and helped with the effects. All the students had great fun seeing their version of the scene acted out!
Finally Sarwat read out his version of the first chapter of 'Devil's Kiss' which was much gorier!

Sarwat signed our books before leaving and he promised to return in the autumn… so watch this space.
