Dragons Den Mural Competition
July 2009
On Thursday 9th July Year 8 boys from Bow School created and then attended the opening of their very own public art display, where they were joined by esteemed guests including Councillor Ahmed Omer, the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Councillor Azizur Khan, Beverly Dobson, the Head Teacher at Bow School and Sam Long from Team Homes Ltd.
The boys have been designing new logos for a 21st century Tower Hamlets and writing speeches to accompany their artwork. They have been competing with one another in a Dragons Den Mural Competition at school. The winning designs and speeches were enlarged and painted onto the hoardings surrounding a building development in the heart of the borough that were kindly donated to the project by Family Mosaic and Team Homes Ltd.
The boys spent a day in the sun, scaling up their designs and creating a public mural display, before being joined by the VIP’s who viewed the boys work and spoke to them at length before formally declaring the public art display open. The event was a great success and allowed the boys an opportunity to enhance their skills as successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
The boys’ logos and speeches can be seen up until December and can be found on Bishop’s Way, just off Cambridge Heath Way near to Bethnal Green tube.
