The Store's the star in teen's fine flick
15 April 2009
Idea Store Bow became a teen only zone on April 15th as more youngsters were being encouraged to use the stores facilities.
Along with a host of free activities, a short film was made to find out exactly what young people want from their local Idea Store. A film crew made up of ten students from Bow Boys and Central Foundation Secondary Schools acted as roving reporters for the afternoon.
They interviewed other young people on their likes and dislikes and found out what would make then visit the store more often and what types of books they would like to see more of. The information gathered through the interviews is just the start of a longer process aimed at getting young people to work with Idea Store staff to plan activities, choose resources and create a space for teenagers.
Cllr Rofique U Ahmed, lead councillor for culture, said: "We always want to hear what young people have got to say so that we can make sure we’re meeting their needs and helping them to reach their potential" Aimed at 13-19 year olds, the afternoon of activities included jewellery making, magna workshops, Indian head massage, aromatherapy, advice on driving and theory and practical test and lots of information stalls.
