Presentation Skills Competition 2009 (MLEE)
July 2009
Bow School have become a thorn in the flesh for some secondary schools in Tower Hamlet when it comes to presentation skills and debating competitions.
This year’s Presentation Skills Competition preliminary started in March 2009 with about 120 students. MLEE volunteers visit the school to work with the students in plenary and individual sessions in preparation for the Presentation skills competition. Out of about 20 semi finalists, three qualified for the finals.
The two finalists and one reserve were selected from an initial group of 120 students who participated in six months of workshops and activities designed to help them improve their ability to perfect their communication skills, developed a financial based presentation and to present confidently on stage in front of the audience.
The Presentation Skills final took place on the 11th June 2009 in the Merrill Lynch headquarters King Edwards Hall. Each competitor prepared a power point presentation of between three and five minutes on a topic of their choice. Enam Ahmod came second with a very powerful presentation on “The Weapons of Mass Destruction”
I believe that the programme has enabled the students to acquire the skills that will stand them in good stead for the future. According to the judges; the final presentations were of such a high standard that choosing a winner was a difficult task for them.
