Rothschild Launch Evening

11 December 2009

On Wednesday 11th November, Gifted and Talented pupils from Years 9 and 10, their parents and mentors from Rothschild Bank attended the launch of the Rothschild Mentoring Programme which is now in its second year. After a very successful first year, the programme will develop this year with a focus upon the boys taking more responsibility for their mentor meetings so that they discuss issues which are pertinent to them.

Following drinks and nibbles, the boys were set a challenge to build the tallest free standing tower possible using just five plastic cups, paper, sellotape and some straws.  Parents, boys and mentors alike became thoroughly engrossed in the task as they took to the challenge in many different ways.  In many cases, the towers just seemed to grow and grow, with the height of the ceiling proving to be the only hindrance!

The competition was close, but it became clear that one tower had soared above the rest and the group of brains behind it were justly rewarded for their team effort.  The tall towers left behind after everyone had gone home, were a fitting end to an evening dedicated to the celebration of a programme which will ensure that, for the boys of Bow, the sky is the limit.
