SKULLDUGGERY PLEASANT AUTHOR DEREK LANDY AT BOW SCHOOL OF MATHS AND COMPUTING

15 October 2009

On Thursday 15th October famous author Derek Landy came to Bow on his only school visit to launch the paperback of ‘THE FACELESS ONES’ the 3rd book in the SKULLDUGGERY PLEASANT series.

We were joined for this great event by students from 5 other schools:

They were met in our foyer by some of our READING CHAMPIONS who directed them up the staircase decorated with ‘lookalikes’ of SKULLDUGGERY PLEASANT – the skeleton detective. They were then shown into our Library by our student Library Assistants who had had their faces painted to look like skeletons too!
Then we went down to the hall where Year 8 were waiting…when Derek Landy arrived the shouts and cheers of nearly 200 students were deafening!

Rather like the wise-cracking SKULLDUGGERY PLEASANT himself Derek was very funny and, as befits an author of horror fiction, some of his stories, especially about his life with his 13 cats, were also rather gruesome!

Derek let us know that he had just finished Book 4 and was about to start on Book 5 but we still have to wait a while for those!

After his talk Derek answered some questions and then we went back to our Library where Victoria Park Books had books to buy and get signed by Derek. Some students had brought their favourite SKULLDUGGERY book with them and Bow’s READING CHAMPIONS and LIBRARY ASSISTANTS were given a book each to get signed as a reward from the school.

It was a wonderful event and all that reading about a sharply dressed, wise-cracking skeleton detective got us all in the mood for Halloween!
