Young Enterprise Learn to Earn Programme

13 - 14 January 2009

On January 13th and 14th Students from Year 9 took part in the Young Enterprise Learn to Earn Programme with the aid of six Morgan Stanley volunteers.

Young Enterprise Learn to Earn helped the students to think about their future hopes and aspirations through a series of fun and interactive games and challenges.

The students visualised their dream futures and learned about how much it would cost to live such a luxury lifestyle using a budget planner. They discussed what success really meant to them, was it all about fast cars, mansion houses and 'bling'? Or was family, love and job satisfaction important to them also?

The students then thought about what sort of person they were; Outgoing, Creative, Technical or Active? From this they looked through job booklets to find a career suited to their skills, qualities and attributes. Options was a key theme throughout the day as we discussed what GCSE choices might fit with different careers.

The Young Enterprise Success game enabled students to think about the importance of job satisfaction and qualifications. In the afternoon students played an interactive game based around interview techniques which got them to recap on all they had learnt throughout the day.

The Morgan Stanley volunteers were highly impressed by Bow’s students, Charm Miller of Morgan Stanley wrote: "We had a great day at Bow. We were all pleasantly surprised by how thoughtful and engaged the boys were throughout the day- some of them had some great ambitions for their futures!"

The volunteers’ presence enriched the day by giving students a real life insight into a possible career choice and also helped bring topics such as work related skills to life by anecdotal presentations and role play.
