Student Focus

Student Council

This year an additional layer of leadership has been added to support the student voice. Fourteen members of Key Stage 4 have been elected by their peers to form the KS4 leadership team. Each member of the leadership team works with one tutor group in Key Stage 3, assisting form tutors and providing younger students with a point of contact for raising issues of concern.
Each member of the KS4 Leadership group is also a member of the Student Council and they are lead by the Head Boy and his deputies.

As part of their responsibilities, they assist staff with tuck shop duty and they assist with the movement between lessons, by chivvying their peers along to their lessons.

The KS4 leaders have facilitated the Student Council elections in Key Stage 3, ensuring independence and impartiality. This also means that each form in Key Stage 3 will have two members of the student body who will be able to bring to the Student Council any issues.

The KS4 leadership group meets weekly and the Student Council meet monthly.

As well as having an input into school policy, meeting with the Headteacher and governing body, members of the Student Council represent Bow at local area Youth Forums.

This year, as well as dealing with the usual student concerns, the Student Council want to raise money for charity, continuing a link we have made with the Sue Ryder Cancer Foundation and they want to raise awareness within the school community of the importance of recycling. This last project will involve them in work with outside agencies.
