BOW UNITING NATIONS

BOW UNITING NATIONS

On Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December 2011, a group of gifted Year 10 students took part in the Model United Nations Conference on Climate Change at the prestigious International Maritime Organisation near Westminster, with 400 other delegates from schools across the world.

They had been preparing for several weeks as they took on the roles and positions of countries such as North Korea, Guatemala and Cyprus, as well as learning how to debate in the unique style of the UN.

Throughout the two days, there were were many heated discussions as the committees explored the key issues of global warming, climate refugees, global food and water security and came to resolutions on how to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change despite the countries’ differences in geography and ideology.

The students were a credit to Bow School, remaining focused and enthusiastic, even at 7.30 on a freezing Saturday morning.  Perhaps they could teach our world leaders a thing or two!
