Bow School students meet BBC reporter Ed Bearryman
On Friday 27th April, Bow School students were fortunate enough to be visited by BBC reporter Ed Bearryman. Ed, who writes for the weekly Match of the Day magazine and regularly reports for the BBC’s football show MOTD Kickabout, ran three workshops for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students learnt about interview techniques and ways to entertain the reader before putting their newfound journalism skills into practice and giving Ed a grilling during their very own Bow press conference. Ed was overwhelmed by the positive reception he received and hopes to return to Bow at some stage in the future. He said of his visit: “It was a pleasure to come in and see the promise and potential from such a talented group of students. Their attitude was really inspirational for me and I hope they can now build on their newfound interview skills to become star journalists of the future.”
Bow students now have the unique opportunity to visit the Match of the Day magazine offices and experience a day in the life of a journalist. To be considered for the visit, all students have to do is write a short newspaper-style article (200 – 300 words) about a Bow School news story of their choice. The judges will be looking for writing which informs and entertains. Good luck to all those journalists of the future!
