"READING IS THE GATEWAY SKILL THAT MAKES ALL OTHER LEARNING POSSIBLE, FROM COMPLEX WORD PROBLEMS AND THE MEANING OF OUR HISTORY TO SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY AND TECHNOLOGICAL PROFICIENCY." BARACK OBAMA

Our Tutor time reading programme takes place across Years 7-11.

In Key Stage 3 form time reading takes place for 20 minutes twice a week with the tutor leading the reading. This allows us to support students with context within the book and also their vocabulary. We have selected a range of fiction and non-fiction books to not only to build on their knowledge of the world but to also support areas of the curriculum.

In Key Stage 4 we look at extracts from books and news articles which we read and discuss together via questions set within the programme. We continue to look at vocabulary and how these readings and articles impact the world around us.

– R.J. Palacio

'My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.'

Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.

Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he's being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?
