Learn to Earn
After the Easter break the Year 9 cohort were offered the opportunity to have a range of curriculum enhancement experiences. The students were taught about the financial sector and how to make money through the ‘Learn to Earn’ programme. This involved students learning about how much things actually cost, in relation to the type of job they will need to do in order to earn the salary to keep them in the lifestyle they want. I am convinced that this programme has sparked the enthusiasm of the students, raised their aspirations and hopefully the next Richard Branson or Alan Sugar will be an ex-Bow boy!
The following day the students had a Sexual Health session led by an outside agency called Options. This involved informative, frank discussions on relationships, sexual heath and pregnancy. I feel that this was immensely valuable to our students and they responded in a mature way, demonstrating real engagement with the topic, which can sometimes be quite embarrassing and difficult for them to discuss. Overall, I feel that programme arranged for the students has provided them with a greater level of knowledge in topics that may not be academic, but can be equally as important.
