An Update From the PE Team!

Year 7 West Ham Foundation Boys Football Competition

Seven boys were invited to compete at the West Ham foundation football tournament. We were drawn against Forest Gate and St Mary’s.

Our first game was a tight game where we were unfortunate losers 1-0 to Forest Gate. We then went onto play against St Mary’s who went onto with the competition. Needless to say, they would have made the staff team look silly!

In the rematch against Forest Gate, a stunning top corner finish by Juan Londono meant we were able to right the wrong. Winning this game 2-1 and qualifying for the semi-finals on goal difference. We went on to finish the competition in a respectable 4th. Well done to all the participating students.

Year 8/9 West Ham foundation boys football competition

Year 8 and 9 students took part in a West Ham football 6 a side competition on Monday night in Beckton with various schools from East London. We were placed against Leytonstone School and St Marys. We started the first game and lost 2-0 to St Mary’s who eventually went on to be tournament winners and we were very unlucky to lose 1-0 to Leytonstone in the last minute and kick of play. The boys got to experience playing against high quality teams outside of Tower Hamlets which will do wonders for their learning and determination to become better. Well done for the efforts!

Year 10 Tower Hamlets Football Tournament

The Year 10’s had their final annual tournament against 13 schools in Tower Hamlets. They came 6th last year and lost in a penalty shootout. This year it was all or nothing as they don't get this in Year 11. In the group stages they played four games and won all four of them topping the group. We then progressed onto the semi final and Lizandro scored the goal of the tournament volleying the ball in from 30 yards out.

We then come up against Bishop Challoner in the final who win everything sports wise in Tower Hamlets. We took them to the wire finishing 1-1 in normal time with Raahil scoring an equaliser just before the whistle.

There were scenes of celebrations from other schools watching! The game went to extra time and our players kept getting cramps and I had to make multiple substitutions and they were genuinely tired. Bishop scored to take the score to 2-1 to become eventual winners. The boys done us proud and we can now say we are the 2nd best school in Tower Hamlets at Football!

Year 7 boys football league game

On a sunny Friday afternoon, the year 7 boys took on LEA in a league game. A number of students made their Bow School debut. The boys put in fantastic effort from the first whistle to the last. The game was a learning curve for the team, playing against some top young athletes.  The result did not go in our favour but all our students played with respect and determination.

Boys football club is on Tuesday every evening 3:15 - 4:15. Every student is welcome.

Year 8 boys football league game

After waiting patiently for our year 7 boys to finish their game against LEA. The boys were up for the battle! Today was the day all the hard work fell into place.

The progress the year 8 team have made over the year has been phenomenal and now look like a well oiled machine! Thanks to team coach Mr Smith (Ted Lasso). Today was the day all the hard work fell into place! From the first whistle Daniel Ahmed’s dribbling caused issues. He created gaps big enough to unleash shots… left… right… and centre. Ending up on a hat-trick of goals. All players contributed to a great win. This was the first clean sheet of the season and an all round great performance.

Year 9 boys football league game

The Year 9 boys played against St Pauls Way on Thursday 23rd February against a St Pauls Way team who initially beat us 7-1 in October 2022.

The boys have come on massively and were a credit to themselves and the school. The game was fiercely contested and a small mistake by our goalkeeper gave St Pauls Way the lead. The game stayed at 1-0 the whole match and we had numerous chances to equalise but our squad is having a goal drought not scoring in a few months!

With the last kick of the game St Pauls way go a lucky deflection which made it 2-0. Our next game is against LEA in a few weeks and a friendly against george Greens. Well done to those involved.
