Calais-France Trip 13th December 2013

On Friday 13th December 2013 a group of 44 students from years 7- 8- 9 and 5 members of staff visited Calais-France.  The students gain confidence with their spoken French. They discover that French is not another school subject.

The visit of the town started at the majestic town hall, where pupils admired the famous sculpture by Auguste Rodin, of the six burghers who offered to give up their lives to save the besieged Calaisiens in 1347.
Pupils explored the town, studying signs, menus and learning about local produce, with many trying out their French in shops and at the tourist office. Some were braver than others at speaking, but everyone had a go and were pleasantly surprised that they had successfully managed to make themselves understood.

The subject becomes more real to them and their motivation has increased. They gain first-hand experience of French culture and society.
