Domination on the Downs
On the 8th June, a mixed 11 of Y7-10 cricket club members took to the field on a baking hot afternoon against a strong Hackney side in the shape of Mossbourne Community Academy.
Captain Tamim Shikder won the toss and elected to bat first. Mossbourne got off to a shaky start bowling plenty of wides, but eventually openers Samchul and Tanzil got off the mark with Tanzil finding the boundary easily for a flurry of fours and Samchul supporting with some good running before getting bowled for five runs. Fahman joined Tanzil and added eight himself before becoming the next victim of the improved Mossbourne bowling.
Tanzil was joined at the crease by Tamim who wasted no time in slashing mercilessly at the ball, sending shots to the boundary with ease. Sadly for Bow the partnership of Tanzil and Tamim came to an end when Tanzil was caught deep of square for a respectable thirty-eight.
This left a new partnership of Tamim and Hassan Tofadar to bring home the Bow innings. Tamim was resplendent at the crease, hitting a total of eleven sixes for a total of 90, not out, assisted by Hassan who himself scored six runs, including a 4.
Bow ended on 182/3
In reply Mossbourne ‘s opener battled hard for nine runs, including two boundaries that tested Simanto and Mahin in the deep. Early wickets from Tanzil and Samchul put pressure on the Mossbourne middle order. Mossbourne’s number 4 stayed at the crease bravely accruing runs to end on 15, not out. Bow’s bowlers Tamim, Samchul and Tanzil took a pair of wickets each, while Bruce (0-7), Al-Rafi (0-9) and Zaheer (0-7) assisted in bowling an over a piece, their first time bowling in a competitive hardball cricket match.
Mossbourne ended on 82/6, meaning that Bow School won the Middlesex T20 Development Cup Quarter Finals by 100 runs. Bow will face Christ’s School in the Semi Finals.
