F1 In School Stem Challenge
This year Bow School entered the F1 in Schools STEM challenge for the first time and competed in the Regional Final on the 9th February. The challenge:
- to design and build a model F1 car to be raced down a 20 metre track, propelled by a shot of compressed CO2.
On the day the teams had to present their car (which had to meet many strict regulations) as well as a design and engineering portfolio. They also had to create a pit display and give a verbal presentation.
As this was our first year, we competed in the Entry Class which meant we could not qualify for the National or World Finals, but there were prizes to be won in the Entry Class and Bow School’s team ‘Pink Lightning’ won the Fastest Car Award, Future Stars Award, Portfolio Award and the Pit Display Award.
The ‘Pink Lightning’ team were made up of Muhammad Ibrahim Hye, Toffazul Hussen, Daniel Evans, Ronnie Williams, Yamin Mohammed and Said Hasan.
As well as the team, we invited a group of 14 students to come along to the final so they could experience the day and see how fun and challenging STEM projects can be. All of the students left the event inspired by the incredible work that had been done by other students competing in the Development and Professional Classes with a number of them promising to get involved in the challenge and compete at that level next year.
