Royal Drawing School Young Associates
On Saturday 4th March, three of our talented Year 10 art students attended the Royal Drawing School Young Associates at Trinity Buoy Wharf after being awarded scholarships for the programme. There was plenty of time to explore the area, from the impressive graffiti murals to climbing the lighthouse and experiencing Jem Finer’s Longplayer sound installation.
The workshop itself is run by practicing artists who give young people a taste of what studying Art at university is like. The drawing tasks were challenging and exciting, and the boys got stuck into the activities. Three hours of intensive art making flew by and staff got involved to lend a hand.
Through the duration of this programme the boys will extend their learning, hone their skills and be challenged to work out of their comfort zone. They also get to work with a different group of students, all of whom bring new ideas and different approaches. The session concluded with a group critique where the boys’ artworks were picked out and discussed by the group – giving them the confidence to go again the following week.
I look forward to seeing the masterpieces they create in the Young Associates exhibition in the summer.
