Today the Year 9 football team have completed a very special victory against Bishop Challoner School in a game they went into as clear second favourites.

The game started at a very fast pace with both teams rushing to get the ball forward and giving it away, with lots of midfield play and no goal mouth chances it was clearly going to be a tight game.  Slowing Bishop started to get on top of the game with Bow restricted to playing on the counter-attack, after around 15mins the ball was played down the right wing and Ismail Al-Islam picked the ball up and ran with it from the half way line, het beat two men, got into the box, then beat two more players before sliding the ball past the keeper to score and make it 1-0. The game became all about defence for Bow and we were looking very dangerous on the counter attack with Daniel Nzuruba, Calvin Barnett and Salim Miah all a threat.  After 25mins a frustrated Bishop player took a shot that was deflected and saved by Arif Ahmed, unfortunately the rebound fell to a Bishop striker and he finished brilliantly to make it 1-1.  The boys from Bow had started to believe that they have a chance in the game and did not become disheartened but pushed on and their efforts were nearly rewarded just before half time when Calvin had two chances close together, one a back heel that was saved and the second a shot that hit the post.

Into the second half and a Bow team with an increased belief and the addition of two subs Arman Morshed and Nathan Ackie start to control the game and push forward time after time, the Bishop team were becoming frustrated with the solid back four of Lee Campbell, Jack Rose, Jaynul Islam and Aman Ali.  With 15 minute to go Arman put Ahqlak Miah clean through with a wonderful pass and the hero of the last round unfortunately could not repeat his heroics by putting the ball a foot wide.  Bow, However, keep pushing for the win and with 10 minutes remaining Daniel put Nathan through with a great pass and he calmly ran clear of his defender and with no sign of panic, the far too laid back Nathan then chipped the ball in off the post to make it 2-1 Bow!

From the moment of the second goal onwards Bishop pushed forward again and again in relentless optimism for a goal and it felt like it was going to happen.  With wave after wave of attack the Bow defence stood firm with outstanding performances from the centre backs Jaynul and Aman and the holding midfielder and the marauding Daniel N.  Finally in the last minute Bishop made a chance and it looked clear they would score as their captain volleyed at goal from 12 yards but Arif was equal to the challenge pushing the ball around the post and that was it, with a massive cheer at the final whistle the boys have booked their place in the Inner London Quarter finals...

Man of the Match – shared between Aman Ali (will run through a wall if he needed to) and Jaynul Islam (Mr Organised)
