Bow School

The Big Sing Event

The Big Sing Event

Nearly 150 pupils from schools across the borough came to Bow school on Thursday 23rd February for the "Big Sing" event which we were delighted to host in our brilliant Waterside Theatre. The event was organised by the Spitalfields Festival Education Team and THAMES.  The schools involved were: Phoenix, George Green, Morpeth, Stepney Green, St Paul’s Way, Oaklands and ourselves.

Vocal Leaders Jessie Maryon Davies and Suzi Zumpe led the singing:

- Suzi Zumpe - co-founder and Joint Artistic Director of the Royal Opera House Youth Opera Company. As a vocal leader, she has worked with all of the major opera companies in the UK and regularly runs workshops for the Southbank Centre and other large Arts organisations.

- Jessie - a vocal leader and pianist with a passion for collaboration. Jessie co-leads and arranges for the all-female pop choir 'Lips' who have sung alongside such artists as Leona Lewis and Goldfrapp.

The repertoire was wide ranging: from early soul and blues to a contemporary arrangement of a piece by 'Leadbelly' and a dramatic excerpt from Henry Purcell's 'Fairy Queen'.

The pupils sounded amazing in up to 4 harmony parts and everyone really enjoyed the day.

There will be one more rehearsal in May and then the final concert at Bethnal Green 'Museum of Childhood' where our very own choir, led by Miss Orlans, will also perform a piece.   Dates to be advised.
