Tower Hamlets schools Battle of the Bands
A band of year 9 and 10 boys competed in the Tower Hamlets schools Battle of the Bands on Thursday the 22nd March. The boys were Rohim, Ethan and Adam in year 10 and Paulo and Jayden in year 9. 13 bands competed in the annual event organised by and held at Morpeth School.
Adam, Rohim and Ethan have been playing together for some time in their music GCSE lessons but Jayden and Paulo were very new additions to the band, Jayden was recruited the day before and Paulo on the day of the competition! Both boys did exceptionally well to learn the song in the time they were given.
The boys performed Use Somebody by Kings of Leon and did a marvellous job, their timing, balance and adjusting to the rest of the ensemble was well rehearsed and this paid off when it came to the big performance. Rohim played electric guitar and absolutely nailed the solo, Ethan played Bass (and has only been playing since September!) Adam played keys, Paulo played drums and Jayden sang.
The four judges were all musicians themselves, some working in industry and others in education. At the end, the boys were pipped to the post by a Morpeth band who played a cover of the Zutons’ Valerie (also covered by Amy Winehouse) but received some useful feedback from the judges and learned a lot from the experience. They have also gained a new band member in Paulo, who has discovered his love for playing in a group!
Well done on an excellent job and better luck next year boys!
