Transitioning to Bow

The Bow School transition programme is well-known and highly regarded. Why do we put such great emphasis and effort on curating it? Research indicates that a positive transition into secondary education can support children in developing new friendships easily, maintaining good self-esteem and confidence, show an increasing interest in school and their work, adapt to new routines with ease and experience continuity in their learning. It is our aim that every pupil feels like part of the Bow community, long before they join us in September.

Meet Sofia, Year 7, Stepney Green CofE Primary School Alumni

“I wanted to come to Bow School because my older sisters came here, and they always talked about what great fun they had here – I was so excited and happy when I found out I got my place! I really liked the look of the school when I came for a visit, it looked modern and had great facilities, especially the drama studios and performance space including the Theatre, drama is my favourite subject so it’s a fantastic opportunity to take part in performances in a proper theatre. I settled in quickly, as I attended Summer School and Friendship Afternoon, I also joined clubs when I joined in September – there are so many on offer! I am looking forward to new opportunities, especially school trips and taking part in the new gardening project”.

Meet Izyan, Year 8, Marner Primary School Alumni

“Bow School is located close to my primary school, so I visited the school a lot during Year 5 for workshops and activities and already had an idea that I wanted to come here before Year 6. The teachers are very nice, students are welcoming and there are so many exciting opportunities to get involved in. The highlight of my Year 7 experience was the Award Ceremony at the end of the year, a lot of my hard work was recognised and I am very proud of myself for that, the school and teachers always reward our efforts and go the extra mile to help us achieve above and beyond our potential”.

Meet a Year 8 Parent

“I am so pleased with the progress my son has made since starting secondary school at Bow School. He found his feet very quickly and often comes home motivated to work on homework and projects. He has grown so much in confidence, always willing to try new things and blossoming in independence.  The school maintains a strong commitment to pastoral care, the highest standards of teaching and exciting extra-curricular programme”.
