We Won't Rest Campaign

The ‘I am WE’ Committee encourages students to challenge apathy, discover their passions and develop lifelong skills such as leadership, critical thinking and action planning. Whilst most organisations see young people as problems to be solved, we see young people as problem-solvers.

This term, the ‘I am WE’ Committee have been taking action on youth homelessness and supporting the De Paul Charity. The De Paul Charity empowers young people experiencing homelessness, providing emergency accommodation, supported housing and other services to help people rebuild their lives. Representatives from the De Paul Charity delivered a training course to members of the WE Committee, which started with an introductory session raising Awareness on Youth Homelessness, followed by a package of four sessions on Conflict Resolution. The course covered conflict resolution, emotional health and wellbeing as well as personal development. The aim of the course was to enable the ‘I am WE’ Committee to better understand the challenges that homelessness presents, and to prepare/inform them for their ‘We Won’t Rest’ Campaign. Committee members were very engaged and found the course very helpful.

Members of the ‘I am WE’ Committee also attended an ‘Action Planning’ Workshop delivered by a ‘WE’ charity ambassador. The Workshop enabled the Committee members to develop their ideas for social change and action planning. It also allowed students to get extra help in investigating the issues important to them and plan actions for the term.

The challenge that the ‘I am WE’ Committee set themselves was to deliver a series of assembly presentations to promote the De Paul Gift Collection (the primary campaign the students were engaged in for the ‘We Won’t Rest’ movement). Year 7-10 made generous donations towards this campaign and we collected over 250 items ranging from toiletries to food to reading books. Committee members displayed excellent skills including: hard work, commitment and active citizenship - rising to the challenge by working together in order to make the ‘We Won’t Rest’ campaign a great success. The ‘I am WE’ Committee would like to thank students, parents and staff for their kind donations.

Next term, the ‘I am WE’ Committee will be moving on to a global campaign which, with all your support, will be an even bigger success!
