Title
On a cold and rainy day November Monday at the end of the DLR, memories were made and friendships strengthened.
Bow drew Stepney Green and Wapping, two teams Bow had faced in outdoor cricket last year and played with mixed success. First up was Wapping who Bow made light work of thanks to the bowling of Tamim, Samchul, Tanzil and Fahman. Bow's second group game didn't go so well; batting first Tamim was caught early and with Fahman, Samchul and Lizandro unable to make headway against the Stepney bowlers, a run chase target of 31 was easy for the boys from E1. Second place in the group stage meant Bow faced Oaklands.
The Bethnal Green school has a strong tradition of cricket, and having beaten LEA and Canary Wharf College to come first in their group, Tamim Shikder's team knew they needed to dig deep to secure a place in the final. Batting first Tanzil and Tamim opened, with Tanzil impressing with the bat. The Bow target of 56 was just too much for Oaklands and they fell short in their innings by some 16 runs. On to the final and a re-match with Stepney Green. Bow were put into bat. Openers Tanzil and Tamim batted aggressively, with Tanzil, racking up a total of 33 runs. Bow set Stepney a chase target of 71!. Coming into bowl Ry-Lee, who had bowled an over each match and progressed each time managed a tidy over for only 4 runs given away. Tamim found the off-stump 2 times and thanks to some great team work fielding by Sayed, Ry-Lee and Fahman getting a couple of run-outs, Stepney fell 28 runs short to take silver.
The trophy will be presented in assembly and then be added to the PE department haul on the new cricket shelf - first of many more to come!
