Oompah Brass visit Yr7 students

Oompah Brass visit Yr7 students

On Thursday 19th April Bow School received a visit from Oompah Brass. The purpose of the visit was to allow our Year 7 students to experience the amazing sounds of orchestral brass instruments and to find out how they might get involved in learning to play these exciting instruments. The band was made up of five players (two trumpets, one French horn, one trombone and one tuba). They performed a short concert of specially arranged pop songs such as “Take On Me” by Aha and “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing” by the Scissor Sisters. Following the performance all 125 students got an opportunity to play the instruments for themselves to see if they might have the skills needed to master a brass instrument. It was a great morning of musical entertainment provided by THAMES in the hope that more secondary school students can be encouraged to learn to play a trumpet, trombone or even tuba.

As part of the event all the students who were involved have been given the chance to “sign up” for a series of free lessons which will lead to a concert performance at the end of the Summer Term. But even better than this they will be given the loan of an instrument without charge and as a result can explore their interest without having to make a huge investment in the equipment needed. It truly is an opportunity not to be missed and we look forward to seeing a large number of Bow students playing these instruments in the future.
