Rollapaluza Finals

Rollapaluza Finals

On Thursday 21st June Bow School went to the ROLLAPALUZA finals in Westminster to compete against another 11 schools in the Year 7 and 8 competitions.

The Year 7 boys had posted quick times in trials and last year the Year 8 cycling team had finished in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in their competition.  Hopes were high for another good performance but as the competition began it became clear that the challenges were bigger than those posed last year with a number of very quick times being recorded.

The Year 7 team headed off first but it was a slightly subdued performance from the boys from Bow as they posted times that were below par.  Nooruz was the exception recording a respectable 13.76 secs.

Next it was time for the Bow School Year 8 team, after such a good performance last year the expectations were high, the boys did not disappoint with all four boys posting times that were under 13 secs!

After the qualifying stages the fastest 8 boys in each competition were put through to the quarter finals. In the Year 7 group only Nooruz qualified but all the Year 8 team were safely through.

The Year 7 boys were left to contemplate the fact that the winning time in the Year 7 final was slower than that recorded in practice by both Lokman and Naief. Hopefully a fact that will spur the boys onto bigger and better things next year.

It was left for the Year 8 team to repeat last year’s performance which they so nearly did! Three of them qualified for the final with only Aman missing out.  In Aman’s defence, he was on a bike that was probably a little too small for him making it harder for him to perform at maximum levels.

So on to the final!

For the second year running we entered a final with Rene having posted the fastest time in London, with Jaynul and Nathan both showing the ability to catch him!

At the end of the race and there was only half a second between the three boys from Bow!

Nathan came third in 12.99secs

Rene came second in 12.53secs

Jaynul once again kept his crown as champion with a time of 12.43secs!

Jaynul had made it two wins in two years even when the pressure was on winning by only one tenth of a second to once again receive a brand new bike courtesy of the Rollapaluza team!

There was also consolation for Rene when he later learned that his qualifying time of 11.90secs was the fastest in London and consequently the Rollapaluza team are rewarding him with a bike too!

Well done the boys from Bow School!
