Well Done Yr 7 & 8 Cricket Team

On Thursday 14th June the Year 7&8 Bow School Cricket team took part in the Tower Hamlets Cricket tournament.  We played two games and were victorious, qualifying for the semi-finals.  The team, which was selected from regular training sessions and a trial session prior to the half-term holiday, was made up of nine Year 8 boys and three Year 7 boys.  Each boy performed with maximum effort and a perfect team attitude in the mild conditions at Victoria Park.  The first match against Morpeth School was twenty overs and Bow had to chase down a score of 60, which they did with four overs remaining.  Arif top scored with 28 runs and after Bow lost several wickets, Jaman came in to steer the team to their target of 60 runs.  Seven players bowled well in the first match, Aman being the pick of the bunch by taking three key wickets.  There was a very disciplined and enthusiastic performance in the field, particularly from Kibria, Yhamin and Daniel; the latter two taking good catches.  In the second match the boys from Bow were put into bat first and posted a competitive 57 from a shortened 15 overs, with Arif again top scoring with 23 and Mehraj producing a battling score of 13, well assisted by his long term partner Yhamin.  In the final three overs, Shagor came in to speed up the scoring and force through an effective total score of 57.  In reply the Bethnal Green Academy team started, quickly scoring eight of the first over but Bow hit back quickly with two wickets in Arif’s first over.  Bow then continued to bowl and field very effectively and held up the run making of their opposition.  Very assured bowling from Arif, Aman, Jaman, Kibria and Shagor kept things tight.  As the game came to a tight end, Shagor took the ball for two of the final three overs and his consistent and accurate bowling was difficult to score from, as well as excellent fielding from Mahhir, Marjan, Ashraful and Jahedur (until he was subbed due to injury), therefore allowing Bow to defend their total of 57 and qualify for the Tower Hamlets Semi-final.

Well done boys and make sure you attend all future training sessions to ensure that you are still in the team for the Semi-final!
