Y9 Trip to Olympic Park Construction Site
Ten Year 9 boys, all of whom are interested in future careers as either Engineers or Architects toured the Olympic site. With only 6 months to go until the start of the games the stadiums are all either ready or very close to completion and we were all impressed by the variety of designs and the sheer size of the park as a whole.
All the boys reflected on the experience and here are some of their thoughts:
‘My favourite building was the Velodrome it looked really professional. It was made from Cedar wood and preserved with rhubarb juice.’ Jaydon Sullivan
It’s true the Cedar wood exterior really is treated with thousands of gallons of rhubarb juice!
‘We found the architecture very interesting and the design of the buildings very modern. We think that the project is very green, for example they used lots of recycled materials, hydropower and natural materials.’ Sammuel Syed
The park has a huge electricity sub-station which is powered by its own hydro-electric PowerStation. They are about the size of the whole of Bow School.
‘The tour to the Olympic Park was exciting and amazing. Firstly we went to the DLR station and waited to top up our Oyster card but some people didn’t have the right money and after like 10 minutes we went to Pudding Mill Lane’ Shafcat Hussain
Yes, thanks for that Shafcat...
‘I think that the Olympic Stadium looks amazing, if I have the chance I will go there (for the games). The roof on the basketball stadium was recycled. My favourite stadium was the Olympic stadium because it’s the main stadium. There are lots of Stadium.’ Qahhar Ali
Let’s hope at least some of us get to see some events at the park itself next June.
